hummm i will have to check that out lethal, do you think maybe the grounding wire on the starter has come loose or something?

i was driving today and found this out:

1) if i am at a dead stop, and all of a sudden punch the gas, the battery light comes on and the gauges go to zero, stay there, and then return to normal and while it does this i am still able to drive.

2) when i am driving and my engine is at 1500 RPMs and i gun it to pass someone, once my RPM needle passes 2000 RPMs, the battery light comes on and the gauges go to zero, and once agian i can still drive the car.

3) today i got the car up to and holding at 2000 RPMs and slowly started to increase speed, nothing happened, but when i got up to 80 MPH and 2500 RPMs and gave the gas pedal a good tap, the battery light came on and the gauges went to zero.

This gauge problem happens when the car gets over 2000 RPMs, could this be the battery? altenator? or something else. Thanks for the help guys, we are just one more step closer to solving this.

well guys, i found out what the problem was........... while i was installing a new smog pump i noticed a ground wire that had come out of one of the connections, it looked like it had been bent off or something so i stripped some more of the wire and put it back into its proper fitting and drove the hell out of the car for 30 mins and the gauge problem is no more, but the battery light comes on and then goes off sometimes now, i think because the ground isnt getting a good connection because like i said, it looked like the ground wire had broken off inside the fitting so i have to pull that out and get the wire to get a good connection, but other than that, the service engine light went off (finally after 3 years of being on) and the gauges are not acting up anymore. thanks for all the help you guys, it means a lot.

LOTS of good advice, including tracking down the grounding issue. A good thread with good results. Thumbs up to everyone.

I hope future seekers of information in similar difficulty will find this thread.
