Default higher or lower fuel octane rating???

Aloha forum, once again I have a question about something. I have a 1998 V6 stang as everyone or some of you may know, but what Im curious about is this. My car is predator tuned, I have the aftermarket air filter on and I have dual exhaust pipes. I was wondering if I used the lower octane rating would I be putting the stang in jeopardy of engine problems?????? According to what I have been reading, its ok but it will decrease the performance such as, the horsepower for one!!! I really dont want to lose any horsepower but I do want to save some money on gas???? Can anyone also tell me what is the standard horsepower on a 98 V6 before any mods????? I thank all of you in advance.

well the higher the octane the more horsepower you will recieve since u have a tuner on it. Now i you have ur car on a 91 octane tune (usually called the performance tune) and u use 87 it may cause detonation and could harm the engine and you will lose a lot of horsepower but if you really wanna save on gas go with 89 cuz that should be fine with the tuner you have. Its safer but again you will still lose some hp gains.
