Default 2001 Mustang Mystery Heat--Driver's Cabin Help!

Greets Mustang afficionados & techies:
I've got a 2001 coupe (odometer around 120K) that's been heating up considerably inside the interior of the vehicle. Heat feels like it's coming up from the center cosole-armrest area. Doesn't appear to be an engine issue directly, as temp gauge reads perfectly normal (actually below midway point). Also, no check engine or service lamps have illuminated. Of course, problem is more pronounced on longer road trips (200+ miles), but has never been an issue 'til now. Issue is becoming an irritant as it necessitates rolling down both windows or starting the a/c to cool the inside. Basically feels like riding in a sauna! Local Ford dealership in town just closed, so any any ideas or troubleshooting links would be greatly appreciated. Kind of wanted to have some talking/starting points before seeking out repair shop options. Thanks!

he's talking about the catalytic converters under the car. They are directly after the exhaust manifolds. Do they look crushed or anything? If they have any blockage they could be heating up.

I would also check your transmission fluid level to see if it is the tranny causing all the heat.

Its pretty common with these cars to have some heat in that area. If you do a search on this site you will find a couple other threads with the same question and answers.

thanks Dan...admitedly, I haven't been best when it comes to extended maintenance of the vehicle...hoping not to have suffered any significant tranny damage, if this proves to be the source of heating. Planning on taking the car to my mechanic for inspection ASAP. With all of the great responses, I believe I've got a good basis on the problem. Others are still welcome to weigh in. Some serious Mustang die-hards on this site. I'm lovin' it!
