Question 2002 V-6 Mustang Cam Position Sensor. Stumped

2002 V-6 Mustang, 70K miles...grown daughter's car, home from school...Dad's chance for maintenance. Had a squeek/whine noise that I first thought was idler pulley..changed that, changed tensioner pulley and belt...still no luck. Thought it had to be the water pump bearing, but was stumped because the frequency of the noise did match the RPM. Then I put my hand on the Cam sensor and volume of noise changed. Shut the engine down and removed the sensor cover. Started the engine and watched the keyway spin....expected a check engine light but didn't get it. Still heard the noise...thought what the heck, sprayed some WD-40 into cam sensor and noise went away. Stumped because I thought the sensor got oil splashed up from the cam for lubrication. Maybe a piece of grit or or foreign material?? Oil on one of the sensor cover screws, but other one dry. Daughter took car back to my school (300 miles away) but I'm still uneasy about the WD-40 "fix". Anyone ever encounter this?

Lube all of the pulleys, it's probably just some dirt or road grime stuck in one of them. Use a high quality lithium spray lube on each metal to metal contact point on the pulleys and be sure not to spray the belt with it.
