Default 2001 Door Glass Adjustment

Good evening,

Does anyone have any experience or advice on adjusting the door glass on a 2001 Coupe with power windows of course. Both my driver and passenger side door glass go up too far when the glass is in the fully closed position and when I shut the door it hard to close because the top corner/edge of the glass (the corner above the door handle) interferes with the weatherstripping. I have to leave the windows just cracked enough to allow the doors to close without the glass hitting the weatherstripping. Is there a way to adjust the door glass? Do you have to remove the door panel or is there an access plug? I would like to try and fix this problem myself before taking it to the local Ford dealership. Any advice is much appreciated.

I think your problem may involve more than a window adjustment.

If the car has been in an accident, the unibody may be slightly distorted and causing this problem. Modifying the window mechanism (no fine-turning I can think of, though changing the lifting arm would theoretically alter its range of travel) won't fix this.

It's also possible that the rubber weather stripping is worn or damaged and needs replacement.

I frankly don't think your problem can be fixed with a window adjustment - its possible you have something worn out in the window lift mechanism that needs replacement, of course.

This is a hard one to diagnose long distance.

Default Glass

It may be that the glass has broken loose, and is sitting on top of the lift. This would make it go up further than it should.

my 2001 stang has the same annoying problem, but just on the passenger side. when the window is all the way up, it hits the top of the car when you try to shut it. so i hafta push on the upper part of the glass when shutting that door, or let the window down, shut the door, and let the window back up. very annoying, especially when my passengers forget and slam the door with the window hitting the top of my car! And now my driver side window has completely stopped working, so i'm guessing the motor went out on it.

Default My driver’s window experience

I had a 01 GT that the back of the window came out of its bracket and I could not get it to stay glued after a few different types of glue. I had a terrible time of getting the bracket to glue back into its original position. When not in the exactly right spot it would go up to high.
I got tired of gluing it so I gave up and went to a glass guy and he said the design made it almost impossible to reset the window in the brackets. So I bought a new one. The new one came with a new design that had one solid bracket across the bottom of the window instead of two little ones at the connection points of the lift mech. The stress put on the bonding material causes it to fail because it pulls and pushes the brackets. A one piece bracket means it carries the stress not the bonding material. He was impressed with it and said would prevent having a problem again. To bad I totaled the car a few months later so I can’t comment on how it actually held up over time but it was great while I had it.
I am nosey so I was asking about replacing the convertible top and issues with the window clearance afterward (my neighbor had a problem with his) he showed me adjustments for the window which were behind the door panel. Since this was years ago I do not remember the exact location of the adjustment points. He also said the door itself could be adjusted some by loosening the hinge bolts moving the door and retighten. He also said the hinges of the top could be adjusted to change the shape of the top a bit.
