Default Have a 1999 Mustang V6, need immediate help!

Im in the middle of installing the motoblue underdrive pulley set on my car. i am putting the new harmonic balancer on but i cannot get my crankshaft to stop turning. The transmission is an automatic. any ideas on how to stop it from turning? I need to get this done tonight. When i was removing the old pulley i just shoved a big rod into the gaps on the factory pulley and that stopped it, but the new pulley is solid and i cant do that.

ANY help would be appreciated.

You need an impact, but you can try to wedge the flywheel which would require taking out the starter.

I did the same thing while getting the original off. I don't remember having to lock up the new pulley. I did make one mistake when putting the new pulley on, I forgot to put that large washer on the bolt. The crankshaft kept turning and wouldn't pull the new balancer on! As soon as I got the washer on, it pulled the balancer on.
Do you have that installer to pull the balancer on initially?

You need an impact, but you can try to wedge the flywheel which would require taking out the starter or remove protection plate on back of bell housing (depending on tranny)

wedge screw driver or something skinny and flat in the teeth and then turn the crank to wedge against bell housing so that it cannot turn anymore...

U need to wedge it but be carefull if using a screwdriver not to damage the teeth be better if u have a c-clamp to use.

You shouldn't have to go the flywheel route but maybe you need to do that sorta thing if yours is giving you that much trouble. There are different kinds of installers, hopefully you have a good one. First I put the temporary attachment bolt (where the head allowed the installer tool to attach to) to the crank and threaded the installer to that.
