Default Air pump question

Hey its been a while since I've been on. In late May or early June I got a trouble code, saying P1411 Secondary Air Injection system incorrect downstream flow detected, I didn't pay much attention so I deleted the code to see if it came back on. It never did. Until Friday. Friday night the "service engine soon" light came on, and I went to the local autozone to check the code, it was the same P1411 Secondary Air Injection system incorrect downstream flow detected code. I deleted it again to see if it would stay off again and it came back on 20 min later. I then got on the internet like a good boy and did my homework, finding that it is something to do with the air/smog pump, if I'm not mistaken. I then googled what a smog pump is, and all I could find was what it does, and how to bypass/delete it. So now I have a slight understanding of it, but I don't know where it is on our vehicle. I looked in the haynes manual, and didn't see an air pump in the index, nor did I see a smog pump. I removed the neg. battery terminal and reset the code now its not back up, but this elusive beast known as "smog pump" has sparked my interest. Where is it? How do I access it? Thanks guys

the problem is most likely from a shorted wire/fuse or diverter valve itself. The smog pump should be located under the passenger side front bumper.

How do I go about checking the fuses and wires and valve?? THat would be so much nicer than a whole new pump haha
Edit: I know how to check a fuse but what fuse is it haha and what wires are they. I didn't want to sound like a complete idiot although I don't know what the diverter valve is

the diverter valve is what directs the secondary air (air pump) to before the o2 sensors or after them. I think you may have inadvertently bypassed it. Its hard to tell what exactly is going on knowing you have a different computer, 4.2 and different exhaust.

Hmmm. I'll take a look at it when I'm working on my grandma's Econoline. Maybe I'll fix the short in my drivers side foglight while I'm under there too. So how do I check if the valves and what not are working is there a sound I can listen for or anything?
