Hi, im new to these formums. I have a 1999 Mustang V6 and want to add dual flomasters 40's. I have gone to 2 shops, and both have said that they are unable to put dual exhuast on a V6 because of fuel lines and vapor lock. I suggested Heat sheilding, but neither shop can make or order it. I have searched online, but have been unable to find fuel line heat sheilding. Does anyone know where i can buy heatsheilding, and will dual exhaust really cause vapor lock on a V6?
1st congrats on joining. i have a 99 v6 also. try calling other mufflers shops like midus, cole( they did mine), local mufflers shops. i had to ask acouple of ppl too. although i have 2001 gt cut offs. and they didnt want to do it beause they werent their parts. lieability i guess. gt cut-off set me back 350 total price of cutoffs and installed,h-pype(100 for cutoffs, 250 for installation w/hangers and h-pype). they didnt say anything about with the fuel lines tho. when you do find a company price them and compare. when i left cole i asked them for a low price and a max price. good luck

Tell them they are meatheads.......
It's the same body as a GT. There is nothing the GT's have that we don't........
I went through all of that crap too. More than one shop told me that my fuel filter was in the way. One guy went as far as to tell me that no Mustangs are compatable to have dual exhaust. Yeah, motor city alright. I finally found a small shop that did mine for a decent price.

Shop around. I got a shop to custom fab me true duals cheap. They didn't have any issues. The shops you went to probably thought it wasn't worth the work because of cost.

lol man oh man im glad the first shop I went to only qouted me 420 for full install of a H pipe + 2 flow 40s. I have not yet done it but he did not mention ANY of this so it sounds like bs to me heh.
The guy I went to came recomended by local mustang club.

Bunch of crap take it to a friend that has a welder and spend a few hours doing it yourself ... just dont go over a 2.5inch pipe you will loose performance
if you're really concerned, go to you're local advance auto or auto zone and pick up some cheap heat shield stuff, either slip-shield or tape. Worst case scenario, pick up a Jeggs catalog!! There is plenty of that stuff available. They sound like they don't want to be bothered to me anyway... look for a "hole-in-the-wall" shop or someone who is known for catering to high horse power applications. Just ignore the jerks who will look at you funny because you have a v-6.
Get some GT cutoffs. And have them weld it up. 100 max for labor if you have all the parts.

I'm looking to get dual exhaust on my 98 V-6 and the shop i checked at didn't seem to be concerned about any thing. I think the only difference between the V-6 and Gt as far as exhaust goes is that GT's already have the dual exhaust. I would check to see if you could find a local shop to do it for you or maybe a mustang shop? I'm sure someone will do it.
gt takeoffs and flow 40s are the way to go. i have some magnaflows on mine right now and i don't particularly care for them, way too mellow, i miss my flowmasters, wish i didn't bang them to pieces
