Default 2000 Mustang V6 still has a hard miss

Hey,

I still can't figure out where the miss is. Can it be the coil pack? It seems to miss in maybe one cylinder. I received a code for a miss in # 1 cylinder.

Is there anything else I should look at?

I have replaced: Wires, Plugs, Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Cleaned Air Temp Sensor.

I will clean the Throttle Body this weekend.

Thanks for any ideas you have.

Ok, Well with you first start out driving you can feel the miss. The car stumbles alot, then as the RPMs go up it seems to go away.

If you are at a ligh and you are going to turn left or right you can feel it really bad.

I hope that healps

There are 3 things that will cause a miss. Fuel, spark or compression. Start simple, most auto parts will scan for DTC's for free, see what you come up with.

Get a spark tester and check all your cylinders (Pulling a plug and letting it fire won't tell you anything because there is no resistance.) This will make sure you have adequate spark in that cylinder.

Since most fuel injectors are a pain to get out and check the pulse, try pulling the connector off and getting a noid light, this is a light that will have the same connector as the injector and will blink with the injector pulse, then you know you have (or don't have) voltage at the injector. If your injector is plugged or bad, then yea... it's fun time.

Run a cranking compression test, the initial reading should be around 75 psi and then it should jump to around 175 psi. If your average reading is below 100 psi that will cause the miss.

Another simple test is a power balance test. Get some small vacuum hose that has carbon in it (very important!) Pull 1 plug wire off the coil and put about 2 inches inside the coil terminal and push it into the plug

Which wires did you use? Generics or Ford parts? We've had alot of problems with the generics. What is your plug telling you? Have you pulled it to see if it is black? Have you recently installed a CAI?

Hey Everyone,

I use factory spark plugs, gapped at .54, JBA 9mm wires, all new filter, cleaned MAF, Air Temp Sensor

Well, The coil pack as bad, and the EGR has a issue. When I unplug the vacuum line from the EGR the miss that happens from 1,200 to 1,700 rpm goes away.

I was getting a code 0301 (Miss in #1 cylinder) we it is because the other EGR ports in the runners must be clogged causing the EGR to send all the old gases to the #1 and causing it to miss.

Now, does anyone have a picture or a drawing of there these EGR ports are on a 3.8 V6?

Thanks
