Default 1995 Mustang V6 to V8 Swap

Ive looked all over for a good amount of time and on many different forums. There seems to be no conclusive answer to the "v-8 swap".....

I plan on swapping my motor over in the comming week and Im going to start tomorrow. Taking out the old 3.8 and getting it ready for the swap.

I will be using 95GT Springs (front & rear)
A ford A9L Computer (Manual) with harness out of a pre-1990 GT

Im looking for some help on factual replacement parts ill need for the convert.

Using stock tranny and Diff (for time being) As well as the stock Bellhousing.

What year motor? Carbed or Fuelie? All swaps will work with enough time and money. You may have to use your motor mounts from the '95 if your motor sits too far forward.

I belive the motor will be from a 88-90GT, I will try for fuel injection. My wonder is about the harness. 94-95 uses a different 5.0 Harness mainley for the TFIS Module. On the 5.0 the TFIS is on the Distributor. If I used a 94-95GT Harness vs. 88-90GT Harness what will be the problems ill run into? I can use stock mounts and all that, Just really wondering if the 5.0 with either harness and a comp will make it easier.

In the end ill have an 8.8 and a T-5 in it, but for now I just want to get it to move. Would a 94-95GT harness and ECU be better or the 88-90GT Harness and ECU?

You really need to use the harness and computer that is on the 5.0 now. It will make tracing wires and looking for ghosts easier because there will be no splicing or cross-referencing.

It is 10x easier going carbed.....

Yea I was thinking going carbed, I have my hands on a 90 HO Motor, and a 90 HO ECU with MAF, I was told its almost a bolt in and go scenario, The Distributor on the 90 will make up for the TPIS thats on the newer 94-95's, I would delete EGR anyways and I could use my new 160Amp Alternator out of the V6 Suprisingly, as well as the radiator, so It seems everything is almost bolt up, Ill get some pics in here today I hope or tomorrow morning, I think I will need to grab a coil,

Hopefully we can get this thread to be a start to finish on a v6-5.0HO

Just FYI I removed the V-6 to rebuild and throw on some heads and go with a supercharger so thats going to be built this winter for another 95 Project. So This V-8 transformation will be happening, Ill Use my stock mounts and throw the 5.0 In tonight at the very least.

The motor fit fine, stock mounts, stock radiator, even the 140 amp alt from the V6 motor I have that will be going in another carcass. Bolts up to stock tranny, new clutch.

Front and rear springs from a 96GT. Ill figure out what I'm doing for fuel pump, and coil. I need to get the harness and ECU still..... I just gotta get down there and get it. It's a 2 hour drive for it. Dont really want to risk shipping it. I'll put the pics up tomorrow after work. It's a nice looking motor. I have a few mods, like a Cobra upper and lower, underdrives, the alt. which is a mandatory upgrade from a stock 5.0 so thats going to make me happy. I hate that about stock fox's.

I dont have a extra set of headers for the motor, anyone KNOW if I need a set of 94-95 GT types? or Will 88-93 types as well work?

I would get the 94-95 type for the simple fact that that is what the body is. You can make other work if you have them laying around, so no more added expense......

Great job!!!!!
