OK so I live in Las Vegas so this is going to sound strange. My car is leaking coolant, but only when it is cold outside. See all thru the summer it was fine. Two weeks ago my car wouldn't start and thru some investigation I got her up and running with some help from this forum. It was the Module. Anyways before I fixed it but After I discovered it wouldn't start I saw coolant puddles under my car. Also she was getting up to 260 Degrees F. I know bad. I checked and found the coolant was almost completely empty. Now I hadn't noticed puddles before this. I filled her up and now everytime its cold outside which it is getting into the 30's 40's at night I come out to find coolant all over the ground.
I have read some things that say it could be the cold weather that is causing the metal to shrink and that allows a leak but is it really getting cold enought for that to happen? Also I have read it could be indicating the start of the water pump going out.
If it is the cold how do I fix, and would it be cost effective to try that first before getting a new water pump?
Also I've read that some older cars have a release hose that if the coolant is too high it spurts it out on the ground. Could mine be doing that??
Thanks for any reply!
