I have an 04 v6 stang and im looking to either autocross or just circuit race it. I have no idea what suspension parts to get and how much this will all run me. I'm not looking to all out drag race it. I really don't want to admit to my dad that he can beat me in my old miata. (he now drives my 99 miata)
any info on what kinda of bolt on suspension parts i could get for under a couple hundred bucks.
thanks in advanced.

well, for under a hundred its basically just a front strut tower brace, maybe a rear one if you can weld it yourself or find somebody to do it for free.
if you have 300 you can get a eiback front/rear sway kit.
of course if you go to a junkyard maybe you can pull the rear sway bar off a gt and a front strut brace for 100 total, that is a fairly traight forward install.

the only thing worth mentioning for a beginner in auto-x in this post is the rear sway bar. Go to the junkyard and pick one up for $50. That's the major factor.
And sadly to the OP, you will be beat by a miata in pretty much all regards no matter what. Mustang turning radius is horrible, we're nearly 1000lbs heavier than the miata, etc. The mustang wasn't built to handle and the only way to get the car to lug itself around the track with no problems is tighten the loose nut between the steering wheel and the seat
But seriously, here's a list of things you can do:
That's all you really need, the rest is all driver mod. I can hang with all of the rear wheel drive cars in my class at auto-x meets. And if it weren't for the lack of hp our v6's have, I might be able to have something for the Subaru's.. Like I said, it's all driver mod, pick up a couple of books and read up on Auto-X. The sport is an art and the only way to perfect it is to understand it first
thanx for the advice. I have actually run a few times with my old miata. That's why i'm getting back into it. It was fun
so the Gt sway bar is a direct bolt up? guessing i would have to get polyurethane mounts
which shocks would you guys recommend? Are the KYB's any good?

Shocks really are up to you and how much into depth you want to go with adjustability. As far as KYB's go, I love my AGX's. They are the fully adjustable KYB model.
Most people just go with Tokico HP Blues though, they're non-adjustable but a solid setup for people who don't really know a lot about suspensions.
The best auto-x suspension without going to coil-overs would definitely be:
Stick with your current tires so long as they aren't bald, don't want to swap in new tires just for auto-x unless you have the cash. If you do have the cash for a new set of rubber, Toyo T1R's are the most forgiving and optimal performance/street tire money can buy. I have excellent grip in all conditions and strongly recommend them, and the tire wear rating is great as well. I'll be changing to R888's or R1R's soon though, need a little more grip but I'll lose tire life in the process..
right now i have Toyo Proxes they came on the car with almost no miles on them.

That i have no idea about the tires, i'll have to look when i get a chance right now i'm running just the basic Dunlop snow tires right now.

well i noticed my car has KYBs all around it already. I put it up on the lift and pulled the tires off because i was curious. These things suck.. They are too comfy and allow a lot of roll.
What shock will give me less roll and should i also be looking at springs as well if i'm getting shocks and struts?

Are you sure they're KYB and not the OEM Monroes? What color are they?
Anyway, I'd upgrade to Tokico HP Blue Shocks & Struts, they're the basic setup that most people run and you really don't need anything more for a basic auto-x setup. And yes should get new springs with the shocks & struts.
they are white with KYB stickers on the side. but they look a lot older than 40k worth of miles... Monroes are usually yellow right?
i just started my Tokico fund today. so far $150 in it

hmm weird my 92 LX had yellow Monroes... I'm pretty sure these KYB's are off another car because they look shot, and dont really absorb much any more..
what kind of springs would be a good auto X set up with the HP blues?
