I originally bought a VMP tune from Justin and was running great with that for a while, but decided to test out a Bamachips tune from Doug. I've been riding around with that for a while seeing which one seems to come out on top. After countless races and experimenting I've come to a conclusion.
Verdict: VMP wins. I've won way more with Justin's tune. My acceleration seemed to take a beating from Doug's and the shifting is better on Justin's. If Doug made a 93 Race tune for the 99-04 like he does with the 05+ maybe it would be different. I actually would like to see that. But as of today, I'm switching back to VMP for good.
Anybodys opinions are welcome, I actually want to hear everyone elses experiences who have compared the two. Also, if you've tried Brenspeed tunes, how are they?
I'm gonna order a tune from Bama before too long. Does VMP make tunes for the predator? Are you using a predator or SCT?

I wouldn't run anything but my brenspeed tune. They are much more knowledgeable in my opinion about what's occurring with the car.
I sent them datalogs that I made so they can make me a custom tune and my car is as dialed in as a dyno tune would be. Brent, the owner, has helped me out numerous times and his knowledge is almost endless. I strongly recommend Brenspeed over VMP, I've had tunes from both and the brenspeed tune is a lot more stronger AND the tunes can be adjusted for free if it needs adjusting.

Wow, I think I'm gonna put Brenspeed to the test now. It sounds promising. Thanks for the input Stanger
Sorry, I left out that detail. I'm using SCT And no I don't believe VMP supports the predator, but I could be wrong
Thanks, you are right, I looked on their webiste and didn't find anything about them using the predator. I hadn't ever looked into them before now.

If they did tunes for the predator I would get a tune from them! Maybe I'll either switch to or try SCT some time.

Stanger, so you felt a nice difference between tunes? I have the tune that came from americanmuscle when I got my tuner. I told them the mods I have. The car runs great but it would be nice to get a tune that is stronger. What did it cost to have the tune u got?

That's exactly why I sold my Diablosport, nobody uses them to tune...

Definitely, I mean, VMP is definitely an improvement over stock but I only felt a difference in the top of the RPM range, The brenspeed tune was all throughout the RPM's. Cost me $125 for 3 tunes. 91 Performance, 91 Economy, and 87 Economy (for smog...)
Yea, right now with the tune I have. I pretty much only felt an improvement in the upper rpms. Like at WOT when it is at 3500 right after that u can tell the timing gets advanced because it starts to climb faster.
I didn't really feel a big diff in throttle response. The only main difference I felt from the tune is the firmer shifts.

Stanger, I just went to brenspeed.com and checked it out. Will they ask for a mod list as you go throught checkout, or do you need to leave a list in the comment box

Brent, himself, will email you regarding the tune as soon as he can after the purchase, at least he did for my car.
Awesome, I think I'm gonna get right on this. I'm anxious to see what it's like.
just for reference, it's not a huge difference like you're gaining 30 more horsepower. It's just throttle response is increased, the car feels a bit more solid throughout the RPM range, and that's pretty much it. BUT, I am running a tune from a datalog that I created, so I can't exactly say that a tune based upon the "norm" for the 3.8 v6 is going to be as strong because they took all of my parameters down (air/fuel, spark, etc. etc.)

Didn't you have engine mods Stanger? How far to the edge did Brent take the tune?

Yes, but I'm referring back to when my car was the little itty bitty 3.8.
As far as my current tune, the performance tune is definitely to the limit of what a mail order tune should be. Granted it's based on datalogs covering every aspect he needed, he didn't go so far as to make the car just pure race, but, the car is pretty dialed in as of this point. But, I only run the performance tune now when I take it to auto-x, generally I'm running my 91 economy tune or if I need to pass smog, 87 economy haha.
next up is a nicer blower setup. Probably a custom-made one I've got the cam already, 228/240 115LSA and .600/.613 lift, should do very nicely for the sc'd setup
