i am lookin to get the long tube headers and off road h-pipe from mac and was wondering what size exhaust would be best ? on down the road i am lookin to get a supercharger adn port and polish the heads but that all wil be done in time.....and if any one has the long tube headers are they worth it ? any info on the size of the pipes will help alot thankz .....tim
try to do a search on exhaust in v6 tech, there are plent of opinions.
I'd go with a GT exhaust, then when you're ready, depending on the boost, you can graduate to a 3" exhaust. For most low pressure applications, the 2.5 inch should be fine. Your real restriction will be the cats, regardless of which dual exhaust size you go with.
Get the GT exhaust, then get high flowing cats when you want to increase the boost on the SC.

The 2.25 pipe is good for an N/A car, but as coyote said, go 2.5 if you are going to supercharge. You will need the added size.
You can gut the cats and just get them to weld a bung on each pipe for the sensors and then thread them back in. This way there is no need for expensive mil eliminators or CEL.
k well thank u for the info !!!! do u think a guy who has done exhaust work for a long time knows how to go abuot what flex said?? to eliminate the mils or cel ??

Most of 'em won't do it -it's a BIG fine to take those off. For them, it's cheaper to put higher flow cats in.

I would advise against the long tube headers until you get the SC. Typically you do the long tubes on cars with a high amount of HP. For a v6 they really would not benefit you until you get the SC, IMO.

The hp of the engine has nothing to do with it. Every engine can benefit from long tube headers, including 4 cylinders. SVT puts them on the Focus, for example.
People with 8cylinders will not advise to use them due to the cost and space and (especially with the 4.6) the trouble as compared to the benefits, but the hp of the engine has nothing to do with it.

I stand corrected...thanks KS. I just heard that they are of not much benefit unless the car has higher HP. But I guess that is a myth. Anyway...thats what the forums are for. I'm in the market for headers too, problem is the 98 was a bad year for the V6 as far as the aftermarket is concerned from what I've seen. Anyone know where I can find good headers, preferably ported and polished, for a reasonable price besides Morana?
