Ok so I have my first mustang which is a 98 v6. The question is can I upgrade to a v8? Either the 4.6,5.0,or anything bigger (if possible). If this is possible can someone please tell me what I would need in order to make this happen and about the time frame with the right mechanic and equipment. Also what engine size do I need (you think will work best) to look for to make it happen. It will be a huge help.
Thank you, Randy
P.S. If this was in the wrong area sorry It's sort of a v6 performance upgrade question lol.
Welll just to let you know, your gonna need a hell of a lot of cash if your going to be doing an engine swap and especially if you are planning to take it in to a mechanic to get it done. And the amount of money that you are talking about spending you could soup your v6 to make it run like a GT, or better. ok im a mechanic in the army so we dont have to pay for our **** and we dont get paid as good as a mechanic in the real world would but, i use to hang out at J&S autoshop in leesville LA, and if you were to bring an engine in to me and ask me if i could do an engine swap, i would tell you with all the other work i have going on it will have to be a side project and it will probably be done in about two-three months, and im pretty sure that whoever you take it to they will charge you a good 1500-2000 to swap. So im not trying to make yur mind up if thats what you really want then by all means keep up the good work but there are other cheaper ways of doing this, if you got any questions at all just ask and i will do my best to help you.

hell yeah its possible!!
hahaha
but like boxer said... it will cost some mulah
while you could just stroke it to like a 4.2 bore it
port the cylinder heads and supercharge it!!!
its what im gonna do
and its estimating like a 450hp
I know people don't like being told "Why didnt you just by a GT" but in a lot of cases, it you want a v8, it is cheaper and much, much easier to sell your current car and buy a GT or cobra. Or you can slap on some mods (power adder) and make it faster than a stock GT. Either way it is going to be worth it in the end. Good luck with any decision you make.

If you go V8 don't waste your time with a 5.0. Go with atleast a 4.6L 4V engine or do what has been suggested. If you just gotta have a V8 it's time to sell........
You can go to SSM-supersixmotorsports or Morana V6 racing. They are two of the bigger names known in V6 Mustang power. They can easily get the V6 Mustang up to 280hp+ at the crank. What they do is they port and polish out the stock heads and intakes and then give you a custom ground cam that allows your engine to breathe in and out better thus producing more power. The power packs are good for a fun car and then if you decide to add a super/turbo/nitrous to the equation then the power gains can be enormous. Or you could look into a Vortech or some such supercharger for 300hp right off the bat. These are all for the V6.
If you were to go for the V8, go for the 4.6L. The 5.0 isn't worth it in my opinion. The 4.6L 2v isn't exactly a performance engine. They can see good power with a power adder or a lot of n/a work but otherwise they aren't the greatest engines. The 3v and 4v are nice engines.
Why not look into the 5.4L swap instead of the 4.6L? The 5.4L is about the same swap as the 4.6L swap, V6 to V8. The major issue is the intake height to fit under the hood since the F-150 has a lot taller area to work with. They see some nice gains as well since they are .8L bigger than the 4.6L. Adding bolt-ons sees better gains, doing the p/p on the heads/intake and cams sees really good gains, and adding a power-adder is huge gains. I like the way the 5.4L sounds too. lol

This is good to know. I'm excited to hopefully to make my v6 a lot faster. How much do you think the mods you were listed would cost?
