Default Top Speed question

ok so lets say i get 4.10 gears, yes.
i get a chip to disable the rev limiter and recalibrate speed and what not, now...

will the car speed up the same way from 0-30 as it would from 60-90?
i mean in general will it still speed up faster or slower in higher speeds, i hope im explaining this right...

If you are asking what I think you are asking, you will accelerate faster but you will have a lower top speed. Also unless you have done some major mods I would not recommend changing the rev limiter

see thats where i get confused, would your car just stop accelerating at like 80 mph or something, or would it accelerate slower and slower until it couldn't accelerate anymore, there we go thats what i meant to ask thank you!!

what do they usually top out at with those gears?(v6 automatic)

why are you wanting to go with a steep ratio like 4.10 for? lets put it this way you'll get to top speed quicker, but your top speed will be lower than it was stock. because of how steep your gears are 4.10 gear in a car are for launches in drag racing. dont for get your mpg will go down too.

+1
Faster acceleration to a lower top speed
& when you run out of revs or power to overcome wind forces will be your top speed.
idk exactly how fast that'll be

I have 4.10s in my 1995, and my engine stops at about 95 mph. It did go over that once while i was drivng on the high way for a long time but I let off the gas so it could drop back down, I'm sure its not good for the engine to run at 3 and a half rpm for a extented period of time. Hope that helps.

What year?
A S197 V6 should be able to still too 100mph, maybe even get close to 120 I think, but then you also need to look an a new drive shaft if you are wanting to top 115.

With 4.10's your car should accelerate better in any bracket of speed. Your top speed capabilities shouldn't really change, only your theoretical top speed will change; but the chances of hitting your theoretical top speed are pretty slim.

The biggest disadvantage with steep gears is the loss in mpg and the extra wear on the motor from running at high rpm's so much. If I were you I would go with 3.73's. Trust me you'll be pleased.

Huh??? What does a driveshaft have to do with that?
I've gone 130+ with a factory driveshaft.

A new drive shaft and drive shaft loop would be a good idea it you plan on going over 100 mph all the time i assume. Your top speed may actually increase because the engine has more "umph" to it with the steeper gears. If you go by RPM's, your top speed will be insanely high (like 200), but it will be impossible for the car to overcome friction with the road and air. Our cars need a lot, and i do mean a lot, of work to get up to its tip top speed.

The driveshaft's in the S197's were only designed for up to 115-120mph. They are weak.

4.10's will not shut your engine down at 95mph. Something is wrong with the car if it only gets up to 95mph, if the engine is only getting up to 3500rpms then that is a sign too. A stock V6 still doesn't have the power to top out 4.10's so it really doesn't matter.

I asked him what year because S197 driveshafts are only rated to 115, therefor the governor is set at 113.

^ The V6 S197's are only rated to 115mph. The S197 GT's are rated far past that.
