Hi, kinda new here but I just went to Chicago two days ago to pick up a 1995 V6 Convertible mustang. Well, there is just one problem. It made it the 400 mile drive back, but the entire way it would vibrate and shake out of the rear at certain speeds pretty violently. I can let go of the wheel and go straight while its vibrating, I am positive it's in the rear I can't feel anything up front. Anyways, at about 29-31 it gets a horrible fast-paced shaking, and goes away. Then about 45-50 it will shake horribly again, then let off until about 60, where it will do it again until who knows when above that. It's a really violent shake, and does not appear to be RPM related either, just wondering if anybody has some troubleshooting ideas. The car rides smoothly when it isn't shaking, better than my friend's 06 mustang actually. Anybody got some answers?
I used to have an '86 grand am that did this exact thing and it needed a new mass air flow sensor. is there a CEL that you can scan? thats the best i can offer.
Not too sure about the CEL scan, I don't have a light... there's always the possibility that it could be burnt out or removed. I can try, but again no light :/
yeah if theres no light im pretty sure you cant pull a code. be patient and other, more knowledgeable forum members will chime in with their recommendations. did you just buy the car? if so, definitely get a tune up, could be a number of things: vacuum hose leak, bad MAF, bad wires, plugs, coils etc etc. good luck!
Yeah, just bought. I'll have to do a number of things just hoping I can rid the car of the shaking before I put money into other things. Thanks for your advice though!
Check your drive shaft and the transmission mount and rear end mounts to make sure they are all bolted up and still not worn. If it is vibrating that badly you could crack your transmission housing and leak out the fluid and then it's all $$$ from there. Good Luck
I'll get to something, sucks not having a garage when it's -10 degrees outside and no lifts or anything, haha... well I'll figure something out. No reason for somebody to get paid to look underneath my car's side skirts. :O
It may be a U-joint on your drive shaft. The whole thing wouldn't be busted since your not dragging the drive shaft around. It would just be one the the four ends on it. I had a '92 explorer that would do that around 45 mph. Its a cheap fix, otherwise I dont know...

U-joints are always a good starting point. As stated make sure everything is tight, check for leakage from all possible places. I have trouble with checking under my car too, If I could slap the guy who put a body kit on an 03 Cobra I would. . .
From what i understand because my car shakes like that as well.... Everything is fine, had it all checked out and etc... But i am missing some bolts and screws on almost all my tires and i need to get them rebalanced... Its drivable, just annoying and scares the mess outta your gf when she rides with you... ("BABY WHY IS YOUR CAR SHAKING!!!" "Hun its nothing, we wont die... It will be fixed as soon as i get money....")
I would have told her it was gunna blow up... but thats cause im mean. I had that issue with the front end where it would shake. That was a wheel bearing or whatever. Yours sounds like a drivetrain issue. Do what the others have mentioned, check the bolts and check for wear. Good luck, hope ya get it fixed soon

Ahhh not good isn't the U joints or the driveshaft, solid as a rock. Hopefully getting new rims and tires soon will fix it. Think having low grease in the rear gears would maybe do it too? Also I really should have mentioned that all four tires have FOUR lugs not five, I hate to be stupid. I just didn't think that this would affect it at only certain speeds and not all.

Your car has a 4 lug axles? I wonder if the guy had a foxbody with a 5 lug conversion......
