Any Suggestions? 1998 V6 Mustang Dual Exhaust Pricing

I have a 1998 Mustang V6. I would like to run a dual exhaust, but i am confused on what would be cheaper; going to a shop and having them construct a custom pipe or to buy a system. If anyone here is from massachusets or new hampshire and/or has gotten a dual exhaust installed by Lous Custom Exhaust, could you please give me a rough estimated price or what u paid for it?

Thanks for the help!

Go to a shop and have them do it. It is cheaper and will probably sound better. Just go to a shop and ask them questions and see what they recommend. Generally most exhaust shops just want you to be happy with the sound so that you spread the word that they do good work.

id say combine the two to save some $$$, what im doing is buying the mufflers and my H-pipe seperate so that i dont get rooked for those, so then I can take the mufflers and h-pipe to my shop and tell em to weld everything up and bend some pipe, muffler shops tend to overprice stuff like that to make some profit, id get on jegs.com and order some mufflers and a universal h or x pipe, the h pipe is about 35 dollars and the x is like 75, good luck

It would probably be just as easy to have the shop do the h-pipe for you. I agree on the mufflers though. The shops do tend to overprice their mufflers quite a bit.

I think if you made a custom pipe you will loose power(back pressure) cuz it will be straight but if you just want 2 pipes go for it if you want more hp save.

this is not correct... you only lose power if you oversize your pipe..

i have a true dual exhaust meaning no H or X straight off the cats out the back. there are alot of people on this site that have the exact same setup. if they were losing power why would they get rid of the H or X when trying to gain power?? we have EVEN firing engines

It looks like you didn't understand apprentice when you have custom 2 pipes it better to have them like going up and then down instead of going all the way straight.

last i knew smartass h and x pipes go LEFT AND RIGHT not up and down..

first of all pipes go down first from the manifold then they hit the cats some cars then cross LEFT or RIGHT with an X or H. some cars instead go straight back to the muffler where they go left and right and back and forth inside the muffler, after the muffler it goes UP and then DOWN over the axle and then finally goes straight again till you hit the bumper.....

yeah im pretty sure the hangars that come on ur tailpipes can be adjusted slightly.. or a shop can bend them to the right height.. i was there when mine were being done but wasnt exactly paying attention when he did that part but dont worry about the bumper being in the way whoever does your exhaust will make sure ur not melting the bumper with your exhaust gasses lol

he wasnt talking about literally a single long straight pipe .. just the tip being turndown or not

I know that after the cats it goes lelf or right depending on what you have, what i'm saying is that is better to buy one already made than making one cuz you won't get the same hp.
