I have 9 inch wide rims on my car right now. Having a 9 inch rim makes the tire footprint about 10 or so inches wide in guessing. Don't get too large of a rim or your car's wheels will be too heavy and it will slow it down. Ill attach a picture of the rear end if i can.
I have 17x9 inch rims with 275/40/17 tires
your footprint is 165 millimeters.
the way you can figure that is multiply your overall distance around the tire (bead to bead) by your aspect ratio, and subtract that number from your overall distance and you have your footprint.
say you have a 245/45/17 tire, do 245 x 0.45, you get 110.25, subtract 110.25 from 245 and you get 134.75
a 245/45/17 tire has a footprint of 134.75mm
rims dont have footprints unless you roll them bare lol
What if my car likes going barefoot huh? Can't a girl have a little fun in the sun without having her shoes weighing her down. Jeeze you just dont understand hahaha. You know im just kidding, so dont get your window unbalanced over it.... hahaha yeah i went there

hmm, those are the same wheels i have except those are deep-dish, i didnt even know they were available in deep-dish.
if your stang is stock/near stock, 315's are overkill and will be more rolling resistance and more weight. in other words they'll slow you down.
if your looking for a staggered look i suggest going with (4) 17x9 wheels and running 245/45/17 in the front and 275/40/17
you say your stang has 17's on it already, or am i misreading that...? what is the tire size on your car right now? look on the sidewall of the tire
ok that makes sense thank you so much for your suggestions and help. and come to think of it they might be 16" stock haha ive been looking at rims for so long i forgot there was such thing as 16's

post a pic of your rim and we'll tell you what size your rims are.
take a look at the factory 17" GT rims on 99-00 models, they are pretty light, can fit a decently wide tire, and IMHO would look great on your car. not to mention you can find them for pretty cheap.

Nah. Our 2000's came with 15's, actually..

to-do list: 1. Chin Spoiler($100), 2. xenon side scoops($150), 3. rear window Louvers($600), 4. Caliper Covers ($190), 5. Chrome Fog Headlights ($80), 6. K & N Air Intake ($260), 7. Red line elite quick lift hood kit ($120)
315's would look awesome, but they're not practical because, for one, the stock V6 doesnt need that much traction, they are heavy, they increase your rolling resistance, and they're expensive.
the 275's on the rear look great. imho.
