Default 2004 Mustang 3.9L, engine dies while idling, fuel filter maybe? please help.

I have a 3.9L 2004 Mustang, Im in the Army and while stationed in korea (1 year tour) my parents have been looking after my car. (i say looking after like keeping it there not starting it every week) So since it has been sitting for a while and im comming home soon, they decided to start it up and charge the batt. well while idling for about a half an hour it dies and they couldnt get it started again. Could this be the Fuel filter being clogged up? this has happened to me before where i was just sitting in a park idling and it dies and takes a couple of times to restart it. then mashing on the gas pedal to clear out any obstructions in the fuel lines and it usually works> Im at a loss, could it be that or something totally different. Please, any help is welcome.

It can be because the gas is old from sitting. Try a fuel system cleaner and maybe some stabilizer if it will be sitting again for a while.

this not only happened now but also when i was driving it regularly just sitting in a park and at an idle the engine died like it got choked for something air, fuel. thats why i was guessing the fuel filter and not just old gas. i was thinking that the old gas had something to do with it also but the filter, could it be the main culprit?
