1994 Mustang a/c not working

I just bought a 94 mustang for my daughter and the a/c is not working. It appears that the compressor is not coming on. I get home from work late and hav'nt had a chance to really look at it but my wife took it to a guy today and said that he took the wires off of the relay? located on top of the condensor and crossed a screwdriver across the contact points and the compressor came on.
She also said that it sounded funny. Any info and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I was checking out some of the responses to some of the other posters ac problems last night and I found the fix.
It turns out the pressure switch was bad. It cost a grand total of 20 bucks.
