Default 1998 Mustang Heater Hose Ruptured

Hello all,

Recently whilst on the road one of the water hoses ( the one I believe comes from the heater) ruptured, causing mass smoke to appear from behind my car. After letting things dry of i thought this would be a minor problem. However the shop i took it to says its going to be difficult finding this piece.

The hose itself is connected to some sort of metal construction and can't easily be replaced therefor. The metal construction seems the be necessary as there is some sort of plug in it.

A couple of questions come to mind. therefor ive included a foto.

1- Where could i get a complete set of hoses nowadays?
2- Whats that plug thing for? could i simply disconnect the heater with it completely?
3- Couldnt i just buy a new hose without metal middlepart and bypass this whole thing?
4- could i connect the heater inlet hose directly to the nozzle for return (with an extention ofcourse) so to completely bypass the heater.

Anything to get this car running again.

Thanks a bunch for any insights

I recently rebuilt my96 V6 and considered getting rid of that pipe but it looked like it might be harder than just using it.

Is the hole up front or in the rear. I am assuming it is up front. If it is up front then you need to buy the whole hose and pipe. Or you could pull it out cut the pipe and just put a hose on it using claps. If you pull the air intake hose off it is really pretty easy to get to. There are a couple of mounts on the pipe that bolt to the exhaust manifold but it is not really that hard of a deal in regards to getting it off. Then do what you have to to get it fixed!!! It is really not that terrible!

Thanks alot for that step by step walkthrough... I should have bought that hose last night, now ill have to wait for easter to be over and for the shops to open again.

That black metal part, can I just cut it anywhere or does it have to be on the knuckle specifically?

DO NOT cut the black pipe at all. the silver knuckle is only a clamp. when you remove it, will will have an open end to install the new hose onto. good luck, let me know how it goes.

Ok the situation is resolved, she's running like a pro again!

Too bad the car was allready towed to the garage, so they came up with a huge bill anyway. I could have been worse, they were going to order a new line from the US, or worse have one 'custom made' at the brakes and hydraulics shop.

So i showed up this morning told em what you showed me, and reluctantly they did the procedure. And made me pay a 150 bucks for it.

Last time ill take the car there...
Many thanks again, this option at least saved me a ghastly sum of money they wouldve charged me otherwise. Plus a whole load of time.
