Hi 'Stang experts! Neec some advice. I have a '01 Mustang V6 with not even 40K miles, and I'm having a problem with accelaration. It shudders and stutters when accelarate from a standing stop, and when I do a hard accelaration while cruising, but not when I gently accelarate while cruising.
I have cleaned the injectors, and I replaced the spark plugs, which helped smooth out the idling, and diminished the shuddering somewhat, but it's still happening. My friend thinks it may be a mass air sensor or 02 (oxygen) sensor. The SERVICE ENGINE SOON light does not come on.
I am working on a similar problem now. My engine has a shake between 1500 and 2000 rpm's, or whenever I put any strain on the engine (ie acceleration) No check engine light, or significant engine hesitation or power loss... 5-10% maybe....
Here are the steps I have taken so far.... one of these may work for you!
Disconnect the battery, remove the mass airflow sensor and clean it GENTLY with brake clean and if need be, a q-tip. The Mass Airflow Sensor is prone to getting dirty. Especially in the spring and summer when pollen count is way up.
Change the fuel filter. Just because the injectors are now clean, doesn't mean they are getting sufficient fuel.
Check for sufficient spark at the three major points... Coil pack to spark plug wires, Spark plug wires to Spark plugs, And ultimatly the spark plug itself. ( If you have any question as to how to accomplish this SAFELY, let me know )
( I have also cleaned the throttle body and Idle Air Conrol Valve )
Tonight I am buying a new coil, which will hopefully solve my problem.....
But let us know what steps you take, and what works out for you!
