Talking For All Convertibles

I thought since there in no place for a vert section I will put one here. Here is the place for questions & answers.

My question is I have a couple tiny rips in my top. How do I fix them? Is there something at the auto place that I can buy?

I don't have a convertible, but I have a poster of Pamela Anderson where there are a couple large rips in the top she is wearing. I see no need to fix them.

Thumbs up

Look at this web site: How to Repair a Torn Convertible Soft Top | eHow.com
Its helped me with a few things in the past. I would do what i could to touch it up to keep it from ripping more, and save the money for a professional to do it, or buy a new top ( a bit extreme though) depends on how bad and good you want to....lol no pun intended good luck.

One more site that can help anyone wit a soft top, i use product from here to keep it from fading... Convertible Top Care

Late Model Restoration has an installation DVD that's really helpful, step-by-step procedure to remove the old top and install the new one. It's around $20 plus shipping.

In show and shine there's a pinned thread for vert top care and maintenance! Not sure they have covered rips yet...

I wish I woulda taken some pictures, but on my 95 convertible there were a few small tears, holes, rips whatever. I bought this stuff called Shoo Goo that dries on clear. I started off with a white T-shirt (white was the color of the top..), cut out bits of the shirt, and layed them underneath the vinyl top. While having my friend hold the pieces of the shirt up, I put the goo over the top of the convertible, spreading the goo evenly. It dried up very clear and from a few feet away you couldn't tell anything was wrong with it! Hope that helps save you the money of buying a new ragtop.

This is the one thing that worries me about owning a convertible. For now the top is in good shape, but if it were to get ripped I'd be screwed. Lucky for me it lives in a garage when not being driven, but.....

Anyhow, I would still recommend going to an upholsterer if you are even slightly worried about ruining your top when trying to fix it. You can easily do mroe harm than good.

Hi can somebody tell me how much it cost to replace a top because i have a 99 mustang v6 and the top is looking white which its original color is black. Also it has a tear somewhere around the back window but its hard to tell where it is, when it rains water go's through it and its smell like wet dog. Can anybody give me an estimate of how much it would cost thanks alot.

When I got my top replaced it was 1600 total. Sounds a lil high but it looks great now. Someone jumped the fence at my mech. and cut my top. In a line and in another T shape. My dumb mech. left his tuner in my car...

Repairing a Tear in the MR2 Spyder Convertible Top
Check out this site. This guy repaired a small rip his top and it looks pretty good for a do it yourself repair. I bought my daughter a '94 mustang and it has a hole not a rip in it but I may try something like this and see how it works out.

i was looking at places and ebay has some decent tops for about 500 to 700 dollars. they had cheap ones too for about 300. but im not sure if i would trust them completely.
but if you are just wanting to slap a new one on.....
how about dyeing your current top? if the only problem is the fade, could you color it?

Default leak

I have a 98 vert with a small leak somewhere on the bottom of the back glass window. Anyone know of any quick fixes without replacing the top?

just a heads up for people with rag tops i have a 04 V6 and i herd knocking on the drivers side. thinking it was nothing i left it till it finally broke. Well i thought it was the piston but it wasn't it was the mount that held it in place it fell off and finally snapped the lower line pouring fluid all over my underside of my back seat. so if you hear any knocking DON'T USE THE TOP! take a look at it get it fixed or it will cost you.

Hey, Ive head some knocks recently...can you give a little more detail about the "lower line"??? was this an engine problem? how did you get fluid on the bottom of the seat? How does this tie in to the rag top?
