So were driving down the road the other day, and the car just dies at a stop sign. Will not start back up. So got it towed to a shop. The shop says the A/C pump went out and the pulley locked up. 700 estimate to fix. No Thanks! I purchased a A/C bypass pulley made by Motormite. I installed it, and the cars not starting. It makes a wierd ticking sound from it seems to be the intake? And it wont fire up or turn over. Anyone got any ideas on this problem???
P.S. If you dont mind heat, this is an easy install and for 29.99,
you cant beat the price. Saves on the 299 dollar a/c pump replacement.

you mean its cranking but not firing,
or its not cranking at all?
if you hear loud clicking, my first thought would be that the battery's dead. have you had it load tested for voltage and CCA?
do your gauges sweep when you try to start it?
Well i think i figured it out. The battery didnt seem dead. Everything was working, but i stuck a charger on it for a while, and it fired right up. I must say though, the a/c bypass pulley did make a little difference. It seems to run a little better. But i dont know if thats gonna make up for the loss of cool air this summer. Thanks for replying so fast. I wouldnt have thought that that battery woulda just died like that. Thanks alot. Does anyone know someone who buys old a/c pumps to fix? I've now got one sitting in the garage.

there are plenty of companies who sell reman compressors.
i think they usually only take yours for a core if you buy a new compressor from them. but you can always call and ask.
and yes you're right, your battery shouldnt just die out of nowhere while running; you may have a short or your alternator may be failing...
i had a similar problem a while back, i would be driving along and out of nowhere my car would shut off, and when trying to restart my battery would be completley dead. well long story short...i used to have a subwoofer in the trunk and its power wire had come loose inside the engine bay and when it would touch bare metal it would zap the battery dead. tossed the wire in the trash; problem solved.
