Exclamation 2003 V6 Mustang: Opinions needed on Bogging Down and Tire Pull.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying a 2003 Mustang V6 Automatic (136k miles) and was told it had some "problems". I test drove the car and it ran great - never any problems with bogging down or shifting. It does have a pull to the left and the front end starts rattling around 90-100mph. Could this be the rotors or ball joints? Or something else i'm not thinking of? It breaks good.

But, my main issue is.. supposedly there was a new transmission put in not too long ago. After the car warms up and you shut it off, start it back and go to excellerate, it bogs down. The RPMs will increase slightly and it seems to take the gas pedal away from your foot to the floor (like cars seem to do in cruise control). It didn't do this when the car was cold. It doesn't have any problem starting and doesn't want to die. Only when you want to excellerate after putting it in drive. When it bogs down and you pull it into first gear, it will excellerate just fine. Could this be the transmission? Fuel filter/injector?

They are only asking $5,000 for the car. But I don't want to spend $5k and have to spend another $2-3k for repairs. If this is the transmission or fuel filter, what am I looking at for repair costs?

Any comments/feedback greatly appreciated!

Seems a bit pricy for a car with 136K with problems. Offer 3K and spend 2K on repairs. Also check vin to see if it was in an accident.

Sounds like ball joints to me for the rattle. Needs allignment (if frame is straight)

Just a thought. Have herd of same pedal problems from aftermarket cruise control even if its not active at the time.

dude don't give them 5k.
are there absolutely no other mustangs in your area that are less than 5k and no mechanical problems?
you can usually find a 99-04 v6 in decent condition for 4 grand if not less. keep us posted with what you end up getting! will be good to get another member in the mustang family

Thanks for responses. I've been looking around at other Mustangs and everything is 10k and up. I don't want anything less than a 2000 model. I checked the VIN and CarFax came up with 12 records, but I didn't want to pay to see what those records were. I think I might just have to pass on this one.

What sites do you recommend for shopping? I've been searching on Vehix, Craigslist and local Auto Traders. Any others?

Don't forget KIJIJI (the free Ebay classfieds).

I would not even touch that car with a 100000ft pole even if you got it for $2500. Sounds like it has MAJOR problems and for it to have 12 hits and only be a 2003 then you know it has been around the block and then some.
