Default Does anybody have coilover suspension?

'04/3.9/gray/all stock
(oops, 'cept pypes catted x-pipe/dual exhaust)

I'm in need of new shocks. Want to lower the car while I'm at it.
Planning to start on p/a after I get the frame/suspension/wheels/tires/brakes ready.

Question: For aggressive "Street" performance. Do coilovers give
enough improved handling to warrant the extra cost? Or is it a gimmicK?
(Eibach ProStreet S or better) Or is something like "regular"
shocks/springs with the tuned sway bars "good enough".

Also, would a coilover system negate the need for tuned sway bars
or would an anti-roll kit still be recommended?

coilover are smaller and lighter than stock springs with the same effective. also has adjustment of ride height which is useful feature on a competition car.

coilover system reduce body roll and brake dive without hurting ride quality

it's just better =o
but for aggressive "Street" performance it might be best for the cost

Well, the reason I'm asking is I talked to a guy a few months ago
whose car was nice and low. I think he said he had Bilstein
coilovers and was not happy with the ride. Didn't corner like he
had hoped. He said he wished he had just got lowering springs
and different shocks. Maybe it was the brand or type, I don't know.
Or maybe he needed more modification. But, he "competes" in
"street type" events on a local course, not open to civilians, so he's
running pretty hard. I think Eibach has a good rep and product
line, but I don't want to throw money away and be dissatisfied.

Coilovers have a mechanical advantage over the stock springs because they are located farther out on the control arm. Coilover springs permit the use of very high wheel rates to reduce body roll and brake dive without hurting ride quality. No doubt coilover are better

perhaps he didn't like how the ride quality was to smooth I'd go for Koni or Tokico

I suggest you get a double A-Arm suspension

I've seen that (double A) but that's really more than I want
to spend. Maybe later...
