Question 1994 Mustang Automatic Transmission Overdrive Problem !

Hey Everyone, I got a 1994 Mustang with an automatic transmission with overdrive and the car is on the original motor/tranny with 270,000 miles but surprisingly still runs. The problem that I am having is the car won't go over 40 mph with the overdrive on, all it will do is rev but not go any faster but when I turn it off it drives fine. What could be wrong ?

Thanks

THANKS, you think it could be slipping or maybe it could be a problem with the O/D switch ?

270,000 miles? wow that's gotta be some kind of record lol.

sounds to me like your clutches are slipping between 3rd & 4th.
might be time to rebuild the transmission.
i agree, check the fluid level and condition first.

is the CEL on?
O/D light flashing?

Thanks, yea I checked the trans fluid and its good but its about time to rebuild or get a new one since the miles are so high... thinking about swapping to a 5.0 since the motor and trans are about to give up...lol
