Default Couple issues with my 2001 Mustang v6. Maybe you can help.

I have an 01 v6 and i've noticed a few things happening to it recently. first of all theres a loud humming noise when i'm driving but it goes silent when i turn to the left, but not to the right. I'm curious about your opinions as to the cause of this. Also i noticed yesterday after filling up that my gas tank was dripping where the spout entered the tank. Has anyone else had this problem and what am I going to have to replace for that. If it helps, my check gas cap light came on 2 days ago so i disconnected the battery and it hasnt come on since but i'm concerned. I'd appreciate help from anyone who might know whats up with either problem.

Thanks

#1 check your power steering fluid level
#2 no idea
#3 there's a pressure sensor in the tank. If the cap is loose the CEL will come on.

In terms of your steering humming that sounds like a power steering problem, I would check the fluid and see if it needs changed. Or you pump could be going bad. My girlfriends cars pump was slowly going bad and no matter how many times the fluid was changed it just kept getting worse.

ive heard a couple people have had a problem where some gasket in their filler neck of the gas tank was bad so they just had to replace that and that solved the leak

that sounds like one of your LEFT wheel bearings are going bad...the reason i say left is because on right turns, the left wheel has to spin faster than the right wheel; and vice versa.

does it sound like it's coming from the front? if so, get the front of the car up on jackstands, and put a mechanics stethoscope on each front wheelbearing one at a time while someone spins the wheel.

also, check the tread on all your tires for any scalloping/chopping on the shoulders.

Last year i experienced kinda the same issue with the humming noise.. kinda sounded like the sound of brakes rubbing the rotors in a way.. i had changed brake pads & rotors all around and replaced the Universal Joint, both rear wheel bearings, & a couple other things & yet it still made the sound just how u described it. finally i got under the car with all 4 tires off the ground and had someone put it in gear while i listened for the source of the problem and it was coming from inside my differential. so i opened it up and found that one of the spacers inside had broken into a few pieces and was rolling around inside causing the humming/rubbing noise.. got new spacers and replaced them and got it back together and noise was completely gone!!

hope this helps

I just had the problem with gas leaking. It would just do it when I filled up. I pulled the filler neck off and it was rusted almost completely in half, I replaced it and have had no more problems.

thanks for the input guys. I'm pretty sure the noise is my driver side wheel bearing. as for the gas thing it was the gasket to the filler neck so kudos to markstang for that advice. i really do appreciate everyones help. gotta keep the pony healthy
