well the turbocoupe was only a 4 cyl engine but i guess turbo's work on pretty much any engine(figuratively speaking).. so.. it COULD be done.. i dunno how effective it would be though

In theory, you can put any turbo into any intake - however I don't think it will be very effective... Like Mark said, that turbo was placed on a 2.3L I4, so it's made to be "driven" by the exhaust from that small engine. Your 3.8L V6 either will overspin the turbo (and blow it apart) or you would have to bypass it, which would create drag on your engine at high rpms... Every turbo has its own unique compression map, which makes it very efficient for some engines while totally not working with others - so you need a turbo that's built for your engine capacity and rpm range, while also providing the right amount of boost without killing your engine or overpowering the turbo. Long story short - the money you save getting this turbo would be spent making it work (and probably a whole lot more!) Sadly, it takes money to make power - there is no "cheap turbo"

On a side note: that turboed 2.3L I4 is in the mid-80's Mustang SVO's
