Default 2004 V6 getting BAD MPG

Just got a 40000 mile 04 V6. All appears to be stock. First tank ran at about 13 mpg. Should be getting around 23 or so. Where should I start?

driving habits probably kill the mpg the most i dont wanna suggest things thatll cost you money.. but 23 mpg is generally only received on highway and driving where youre cruising around at a pretty steady speed.. 23 is a little high to be aiming for if youre doing city driving not sure what to suggest other than be easy on the throttle

Have you checked the tire pressure? If they are not properly inflated that can and will kill your MPG.

yea i had that problem when i bought my car too. Then i learned that keeping the tach under 2500 when you drive saves a lot of gas.

Also the intake and exhaust i have get me about 20mpg. I don't do much highway driving but i have seen 27 when i drove to Wisconsin from Chicago.

You tune and tweak until you see GT's falling behind you. Then when they ask "Is that a V8?" You simply respond with a rev that clearly states "I'm a V6" with a proud smile on your face. As your girlfriend sitting on the seat next to you calls you an idiot.

I'd say check Air pressure, Change ur oil, Check intake filter (make sure its clean), you may have bad o2 sensors as well. Also is it a Stick or Auto if its an auto ur kinda screwed if you can't keep ur foot out of it. I thought I was getting horrible mileage in my 03 V6. But I changed my driving habits (Rev to like 2.5-3 Grand before shifting) and added I added an AM intake,an SCT tuner with an 89 Economy tune (Turned off my o2 sensors), and With cruise control on the freeway The best I've gotten is 33 mpg (Thats ONLY using cruise control at 65 and GRANNY shifting with no AC Driving a flat and straight freeway) also think Of how ur pushing the pedal and half it. I've have yet t put on my 42% Underdriving pulley Which frees up parasitic loss due to accesories. Also U may have gears in ur car like 4.10s which would absolutely kill u on the freeway. Hope this helps Good luck

Changed the fuel filter and threw some fuel injector cleaner into the tank. Last tank was up to 19mpg. I can live that.

Sounds about right for mixed driving.

I get about 18-20mpg depending on how I drive. I try to never go above 2500rpm, but sometimes you got to (i.e. interstate on-ramps)

i too have a 2004 v6 and gas millage is a big issue. i drive in houston so everything pretty much uses a freeway and shor distances. ie: i use alot of gas. i added exhaust and when my tuner come im hoping it will increase my millage.
