I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having. I had replaced my single exhaust for a dual exhaust some 5 years ago but never put on the pre-cats, but still have the two cats on there. I went to get my emissions for the second time with this exhaust which had passed previously and they failed me this time for not having the pre-cats even though I am well within the air quality requirements. I had contacted exhaust shopsand they tell me as long as it has cats and passes the air quality test they cant fail me. If anyone has any other information about this it would be a great help,thanks.

they might be failing you under the idea that it is illegal to remove/ alter your catalytic converters if they have less than 50,000 miles on them.. what kinda miles does your stang have?

Same thing happened to me with my 5.0 at 113000 miles today, ford doesn't even make the first set of cats now. . . I called the state and talked to an engineer. I talked to an engineer at the state, he's telling them to pass my car if it fails again
