Not really... Usually, a tuner (programmer) is best used in addition to all your mods. If you get a programmer (with preloaded tune) first, it will be set-up to get the best out of a stock engine. If you get it after the mods (and tell the programmer manuf.), the tune you get will take advantage of those mods, also. So, I would recommend getting the tuner after a few mods.

However, the great thing about programmers is that they can be adjusted later!

So, after you add other mods, you can always go back and get a more aggressive tune. Plus, AM has an option where you can get free tunes for the life of the programmer (as long as you buy your future mods from them).
I might check out some of their package deals: CAI & programmer. The S197s pretty much need a tune with the CAI...
