I recently bought an 04 V6 that had a few mods done by previous owner. Can't get to that owner to ask questions. How can I tell what gears (stock or 3.73 etc) are in the car?

one way is to open the rear end up and count the teeth. divide the ring gear tooth count by the pinion gear tooth count. 35 divided by 10=3.50:1

All 99-04 cars had 3:27's.......

I guess that 3.27 was stock. My problem is I don't know all the mods the last owner did. Doesn't appear to be a simple way to ID the gears short of opening the rear end like Amus... mentioned.

You can look at the tach and the mph you are going on the freeway and compare it to other stangs that have the same engine and tranny. However, your speedo mph can be off if the last owner changed the gears and didn't calibrate it. To see if your speedo is right, you could use the gps in phone or a unit.
