Exactly!

And to put the icing on the cake... The only real difference the gear change makes is to promote the traction in the earlier gears, (e.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd)

Since a naturally aspirated 3.8L will NOT reach it's overdrive gear potential, there's no difference in TOP speed based off the gears alone...

HOWEVER... in a forced induction engine, capable of creating the power needed to reach redline in top gear... the 3.73's would produce a slightly faster top speed

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been on Wikipedia all day and I'm pretty sure that's how it is!

Since the stock hp cannot get top speed out of the stock gears, wouldn't a higher gear allow for a higher top speed by putting that speed in higher rpm range?

At high speed it takes horsepower not torque to overcome the wind resistance, regardless how often are you driving at the max of the car's potential? Never...I thought so
