So someone mentioned to me about getting a windstar intake. I've seen a few pics and really like the look of it under the hood, but I'm still a bit unsure of what it will do for performance. Also, how difficult is the install? Would I need to take it to a mechanic? I might be able to get a used one or something, but if I were to buy a new one, how much would it cost me for all of the parts I would need? Also, I've heard that it doesn't normally fit under a stock hood, but I've heard that there's a way to get around this. Does anyone have any details into how to do this? Thanks in advance, I'm a little in the dark about all of this.
Yes, Jesse did a great write-up on it. I have one along with the throttle body at the shop. The NMRA's in Bowling Green are coming up next weekend, so we've been busy. You should go......
To answer your question from the talk section, it helps with throttle response, increased hp, and less heat soak. Therefore, you will have cooler air and more hp......
Yes, I have noticed that and skimmed through the thread. Seems like I'll have to download something to view the actual write up. Normally when things say download such and such I move on because not being that computer savy, I know I won't be able to download it. That's why I didn't pay that much attention to it and tried other sources. Well, looks like it might be time to download. Time to go to work.
Wow, I just got LUCKY. The thing actually opened. One in a million chance. That's pretty detailed. Looks like a project for a long weekend. Unless I missed something, I have all the tools I'll need. I know these things always are more complicated than they look like, so would an average joe be able to do this? I have time, but not a ton of experience. Also, I have an 03, so I'm not exactly going to be able to hide it under a hood scoop without dishing out the big bucks. Is there any way to make this thing fit under the stock hood? By the way, great job on the write up stalkerstang (and shinerstang for helping him)
I personally wouldn't do it since there is little gain for alot of work and if you can't make it fit under your hood then you are spending even more money for little return. Besides that, I would use one off a 4.2L truck engine since they have even longer runners but it still is not much more gain.
You'll need to be able to create/fabricate parts to do this type of swap.
Does anyone know anything about the slanted spacer or anything else in this kit? Sorry for all of the questions guys. Thanks for putting up with me. VAP Auto - Windstar Kit
If you use the VAP slanted spacer, you would run the Mustang throttle body.
The VAP kit re-locates the IAC (I don't like that myself), and he fills the IAC passage ways in the intake. So if you use the Mustang TB with the slanted spacer, then you will have to fill the IAC ports and relocate the IAC.
Its much easier to see it if you have both TB's and the intake, I don't have a picture of a comparison, and I don't have the car right now (the chick has it at work).

You must be a trusting guy to let the lady-friend drive the stang. So, I guess my question is what's the easiest, simplest, cheapest, must effective way to make this thing fit under the 03 (01 cobra) hood? I really wish that my car was one year older now so I could get a hood scoop and cut out part of the hood. But, I don't have enough right now directed toward the stang for a new hood with a paint job and the intake too.
I've seen the older style 6/GT hood on craigslist for $50 before. I bought my scoop for about $100 off ebay (a Ford scoop). You figure maybe another $100 to get everything for the Windstar swap.
Don't know man, either way it looks like you may spend a little more. You could always save up for a larger hood, I know I've always wanted one for mine.
