The only time you need a safety loop at the track is if you run slicks or DOT slicks, which at that point your also supposed to have extended wheel studs.
I wouldn't worry about it, but its your call if you want it now to have it for the safety aspect. Search for driveshafts that let go on cars, or even on youtube, it F's-things up.
