The K&N plastic does get kinda warm. But its not like hot, hot. And i think it gets the better number because the filter is huge. its almost as big as the stock air box. The plastic does sit over like the headers, and as we all remember from science, heat rises. So the headers and other metal parts down there are gonna keep the plastic warm. but if you have the engine running, you can hear the cai doing its job. its makes this sucking sound. and gives the engine a nice growl. a nice side effect.

K&N does make one for the 03 It's stock number is 57-2532. If you go to www.performancecenter.com and type in the stock number, they will give you dyno numbers. www.martelbros.com has free shipping on K&N stuff over $35. The kit is about $215. I've seen it on eBay, too. I just put in the filter so far. It says the filter will give you 2-3 hp and the same gain in torque and the FIPK will give you 16 hp and 20 torque. I don't know if I believe that. But that's what it says.

K&N FIPK is the best intake i've seen, i have yet to see something that gives better numbers..

The reason it gets such good numbers is because of the huge filter, material, and because of the strait shot, no 90 degree turn into the fenderwell..

no matter how big the filter is its still gotta cram the air into the same size piping. a 90 degree bend isnt that hard to flow by with air.

i never seen a fipk on a 6 yet to see the numbers.ive got good numbers out of my mac.

95% of them will give you same thing if you put the same filter on at the end. My suggestion is buy a K&N filter and make yourself the intake. You will save mega dollars and lean in the process. You might not get the design aspect right the first time but you will get it right and the learning aspect is the main thing that will give you satisfaction.

hey if you are realy woried about heat you can alway have the intake ceramic coated if you get a metal one. that would help keep the heat out ot the piping, or you could wrap heat sheil wrap like what you would put on your starter.

Matt(mana4real), ran a 13.7 with the FIPK being basically he only hp adding mod.. I have yet to see a 99+GT 5 speed run near that being close to stock.

now he has more, when he ran that he had FIPK, clutch, shifter, and weld in flowmasters.. None adding hp except the FIPK..

Slicks are the key thing for your buddy with the 00 GT... Combatstang only ran a 13.9 when he is pushing over 400+ rwhp on nitrous and like 278rwhp all motor... This is with 4.10 gears
