The K&N kit is a plastic tube about 4" around that connects to your throttle body. From there, the tube connects to the Mass Air Flow sensor. Then there is a little more tube and a high flow air filter. The kit supposidly increases air flow into the engine, making more power. You usually pick up some horsepower. Whether it is worth buying is up to you. It is probably one of the best cold air intakes out there.
I think people are split down the middle on that one. One one hand, the ones that go in the fenderwell should get colder air, but that means more bends and more resistance. On the other hand, the straight ones have less resistance, but might get higher temperature air. The K&N for the Mustang has a heat shield, so the air coming in should be cool. I had a FIPK Typhoon for my Accord that didn't have a shield and it was a piece of CRAP. After the car warmed up, I was getting detonation from the heat. If you get a supercharger, it comes with its own CAI and filter, so it actually saves you money, right? (It's a joke)
ok heres the real deal. i got a MAC performance CAI. and man does it SUCK! Sucks a whole lot of cold air that is. Theat is the only up side however. the downside is that its loud and it makes this annoying hissing sound at any RPM idle or otherwise. It eats up gass like an Iraqi oil fire. My gass milage was cut about 30%. then to top it all off it blew my Mass Airflow sensor. so 400 dollars later plus the over 100 for the MAC CAI i went back to stock. the point is if your gonna modify your V6 dont go half ass and be prepared to hate what you buy.
Think about it guys. Yall are missing the whole point of metal versus plastic. What happens to plastic when it becomes warm,, much less hot. It softens. When it softens it is more likely to flex and distort. When the plastic is warm and the engine is sucking air,, the plastic pipe collapses, thus reducing the inside diameter which reduces the amount of air the engine can take in. A metal tube will not flex and is far better that plastic.

Did you disconnect the battery after you installed?
Sounds like you may have had a leak

That is totally wrong.
ABS & PVC plastic has to get pretty d*** warm to distort .. .

Do they make a K & N fipk for a 95 v6? or would another year still work for the 95?

There's nothing that performs better than a K&N drop in filter.
Everything else is just for show.
Unless the heads and intake have been ported - - -
the restriction isn't in the intake on 94-98 cars, it's in the intake/exhaust castings.
