Default whats a good intake

I am thinkin about gettin a K&N fenderwell intake. I like the look of piping they use. The chrome looks okay but it doesnt match as well as the K&N. The K&N is more expensive but I was wondering if it is because of the heat factor. Do the chrome pipes heat up more than the plastic PVC looking pipe? which is better?

Plastic stays cooler, but I can say I had my hands holding tight against my mac intake, and it was warm but didn't burn my hands. IF I did it all over agian, I would just use a K& N air filter, unless I was after looks.

It really doesn't make a difference if you go with a plastic or metal pipe; the air going through it doesn't stay in there long enough to heat up. On the other hand, I was looking into the K&N kit and it looked like the intake was in the engine compartment. I'm not sure if it is or not, but if it is sucking hot air in, it just plain sucks. You'd be better off with a stock housing and K&N filter. If they have a shield or something that makes the filter draw cool air in, it would work well. If you are strapped for cash, you might check ebay. A lot of people have said they are really happy with their $60 intakes from there.

Well I had a before and after dyno of my wife's V6. She had the K&N air filter, and we swapped to the Mac cold air intke kit,and saw one 1hp gain and no torque change. When I went from a completely stock CAI on my V6 to a Mac CAI, we saw 2hp & 2ft-lbs gain and that was it.

Also I see that your in the islands, get plastic if you do deside to get a kit. the metal ones are not stainless steel so they will rust.

Yea, check ebay they have cheap ones that are probably pretty efficient.

I got mine on Ebay, and I'm very satisfied with the look as well as the function......it cleans up nicely.

I'd get the K&N.. They pull better numbers.. 90 degree turns aren't good.

I got the K&N FIPK II. You can hear it suck in air when you start your car. It's pretty freaking loud cuz the filter is huge. And the plastic does get hot. Aftr a long drive, the plastic is kinda warm. The K&N does come with a heat shield. Seems to be sealed when you close the hood. And the throttle response is great. But expect the engine to waste alot of gas as it "relearn" how much fuel it should use. i got like 110 miles on a full tank after i installed it. but the next fill up i got like 200 miles.

Thanks for the info on the FIPK. I'll probably get one now that I know it isn't sucking hot air.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the best intake would be carbon fiber....but that would be custom.

Nah Carbon Fiber wouldnt really be any better than plastic.. because carbon fiber is usually covered in a thin layer of plastic anyways.

Yes it is but its not like it robs 3hp or somethign.. The reason the K&N pulls better numbers isn't cuz it is plasitc, it is because it doesn't have that stupid 90 degree turn into the fenderwall... The more bends and twists and turns you have in ur CAI the worse it is... Like if i were you and i didn't have a huge wallet which i dont, i wold buy the kind off of ebay, and like cut it... If you notice, instead of going from the MAF, then turning into the fenderwal.. It turns into the fenderwall, then does a 90 degree turn DOWN and then you got some tubing then the filter.. Just cut is so the air filter is half in the fenderwall and half out.. Thats how mine looks and it sounds cool.. If you got the money get the FIPK,
