Default 1996 mustang radio speakers only play when car is running..

Ok, so today I was installing a fuse for my amp in the ol mustang (1996 v6 =\ ). i put a fuse in for an amplifier and the amp was getting no remote signal or turning on and the radio would turn on but not make any sound. however i was turning the car around to park in the shade and the radio worked for a moment and then when i turned it off again. it was the no sound issue. i unhooked the power to the amp just incase but that fixed nothing.

I later put a bigger ground on the amp (although i didnt clean it again since it was still touching bare metal) and re connected the wire from the battery to the amp. Then the radio would play music when the car was running. Even turned it off and back on a few times and it was working. (no power to the amp during this.)

the amp is getting the sound from rear speakers via splice and the remote wire is hooked into the power wire (i think) of the radio. this setup worked on my old amp but it caught on fire (no dmg to car) THUS.. the fuse install and new amp today...

the radio still will change stations and play tapes.. but no sound! ugh...
thanks for your help

1.) Do you have the MACH 460?

2.) Does the Head unit stay on the whole time without sound?

3.) Is the speaker you spliced into still connected ?

IF you have the MACH system then the head unit has a remote wire on the harness that you can use for your amp. You should double check your connections sounds like something is loose but at the HU.

yes. able to play tapes and change stations. no sound from speakers unless car is running (even this is hit or miss now)

it should be since it was making noise earlier.

--update--
I found out that the problem lies within the ground to the amp. When its not plugged in the radio works! Plugged in the radio does not work. This is with the power to the amp unplugged. Ima research some more and see what turns up. All I can think of is making a new ground since the ground wire is perfectly fine. I'll keep yall updated have a nice night!
this also makes sense why the amp is not turning on and recieving signal from the remote wire.

is it the factory radio? does the car have a factory amp.?, if yes u should bypass it make sure that the fuse is not fare than 10 inches from the battery and that the remote wire has switched power if your rear speakers are the amp input make sure you are using the high imput harness and the input deep switch is set to high, so check the output wiring to those speakers, and the body of the amp is not touching the car chasis. good luck Car Audio Amplifier Troubleshooting
