Default How do i know the clutch is good?

Hey everyone Its ChiiLLLL, and i think about a week ago i found a 1995 mustang v6 coupe for 1800.00$ has 80k miles on it and its a really nice car i love it. Convincing parents to get me a mustang that is a 5 speed is probably going to be impossible but none the less. When i go and see this car today, how can you tell if a clutch is in good shape? Is there any ways you actually can tell? Thanks

A worn clutch can make it hard to shift into gears. Or make the synchros grind as you engage a gear.

In a worst case, if the clutch is really worn, it can slip on hard acceleration and/or hard load.

Its harder to tell by pedel feel, because it could just be a worn out cable. But at 80K, I owuld think its still in half-way decent shape.

put it in 2nd, and let the clutch pedal out slowly (engaging the clutch). if the RPMs decrease and the engine almost stalls, then there is some lift left in the clutch. if the RPMs stay the same or fluctuate, the clutch may be slipping and doesn't have a whole lot of life left. also listen for any noises when the clutch is engaging or disengaging. those can mean problems in the future.

hope it's in good shape
