So I'm doing alot of research and thinking things through really well before I make any decisions on modification to my Mustang (something I didn't do with my last car). At some point I want to modify the exhaust. Here's what I'm looking for:
Dual exit exhaust
Increase in HP without sacrificing low end torque
Nice sound and look
I'm looking for input on what the best setup might be with these goals in mind. All the kits out there seem to have 2.5" piping which should produce nice HP gains, but cause a drop in low end torque on a stock vehicle like mine. I want a dual x-pipe or h-pipe exhaust, but am wondering if the dual y-pipe kit will be better? I know it isn't a true dual exhaust then, but will it maintain my low end torque? Would it be better if I got a good shop to fabricate a dual exhaust system with 2.25" piping instead? Any input would help greatly. Thanks guys!

Are you looking for a catback, a midpipe, or both?
go to a muffler shop and get them to put on some gt catbacks and they can prolly make you an H, X or Y pipes, but H sounds deeper but quiter and X is louder but raspier. then you can swap the stock gt mufflers with another brand. I went with the H pipe and magnaflow mufflers and dont regret it at all

the 2.5" piping wont kill your low end torque so much .. its when you go over that you'll notice it.. if you keep a set of catalytic converters on there you wont lose much backpressure and in the meantime your engine will be able to breathe better
y pipes arnt really any upgrade. go with H or X. H sounds deeper but quiter and X is louder but raspier. its up to you which you prefer...

If you're looking for the full exhaust system, mac longtube headers, H-pipe WITH cats, and flowmaster mufflers. As long as you don't get rid of your cats, you shouldn't be losing torque. By the way, don't keep the y pipe; they don't tend to sound as deep and you shouldn't be losing torque with the H.
I went with BBK 2 1/2inch o/r H pipes a magnaflow exhaust with catbacks and 3" tips. there was no difference in low end torque, but the soud was awsome. Deep and a real head turner
x pipe, with borla racing mufflers. i have mine dumped right now, but other than that its the same set up. its not too noisy, but its deep and raspy as hell. it sounds amazing. dont go with flowmaster or magnaflow, both tend to sound ricy, and nobody wants that on a mustang!!
RICEY?????? what is that? borla mufflers are nice but i still like the sound of the Magnaflow much better. My car dosen't sound like i'm driving and empty garbage can!!
