Default what's wrong with statement?

I called a place to see about replacing my rear control arm bushings upper and lower. I bought a set of lowering springs, the fronts are on already,so i asked them tp put rear springs on and do a gear swap. This is the price they told me $135 for the control arm bushings,$135 for the springs and $590 for the gear swap. anyone see anything wrong here if your taking the control arms out, don't the springs come out also,so why charge to put new on if they old ones had to come out anyway!!!!!! would you charge to put the old ones back in???

Its just a way a shop will find to add on every little dollar they can to your bill. I had my car dyno'd recently and it blew a spark plug on the dyno and the tuner charged 70 dollars plus the price of the plugs to replace them. Had I been there I woulda done it. But unfortunatley I had to leave my car with him.
Just shop around, you should be able to get better prices.

agreed. look around your town and state for somewhere that has some reputation of doing good work, theres always one shop waiting to screw you but theres always another waiting to help you.

Springs and bushings are simple if you have the tools. The springs won't come out unless you remove the shocks.

I hope you have a t-lock if you are going to pay for the gears. No need to do it twice.....

Most garages in Canada do this. They add all the hours that are given for each aspect of a job, they don't combine jobs like this. Also, they charge $90+ an hour for labor. Add to that the fact that parts cost double or more of the US price and you can see just how badly the industry rapes people up here. The final blow is that this is all government sanctioned and there is little a consumer can do about it.

As for shopping around for a better price, just make sure you get a competent mechanic doing the work or they can do more harm than good.

@ 232-K7: most shops in Canada will charge $150+ to replace 6 plugs in an engine including the plugs. I could go on and on with the price gouging....

the shop i work at does the same...for example if i replace a timing belt along with drive belts, i get paid 4.5hrs for the t-belt PLUS 1.0hrs for the drive belts...and the drive belts have to be removed to remove the timing cover anyway! and i get paid 2.2hrs to replace spark plugs, on hyundai's fwd v6 vehicles, the upper intake manifold has to be removed. lol.

my point to josh was, the tuner wasnt even supposed to be replacing anything, much less charge $70 for something that takes all of 3 minutes to replace.

florida law states that written/oral consent is required before authorizing any extra work if the final repair bill exceeds $50. dunno about the other states, im sure it varies somewhat.

Well my car blew out a spark plug on the dyno so I dunno if he was obligated to change it or not. I mean he was three hours away from my house too so I had to let him do it rather than drive down to save 70 dollars. So it kinda sucked.
