Default A piece of metal fell from under my 1996 Mustang

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the function of this piece of metal is. There was this odd scratching noise, and today it stopped after this thing fell from underneath my car. I'm sure someone here knows, thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, but I have no idea what you're referring to when you say "a cat".

I'm guessing the heat shield isn't incredibly imporant?

Iight thanks for the info. Perhaps over the weekend if its actually NICE, instead of cruddy and rainy I can ask my brother if he'll put it back in. I haven't got the tools or the know-how up here at my apt. to put the thing back in.

Thanks again for the info guys.

Shiner, thanks for the heads up man. Wish I could blend into these forums easier, but I don't know anything about cars

--edit-- so this is how it feels to be the ignorant one on the forums. I belong to another forum where a lot of beginner artists go to get tips on drawing - and art is where my knowledge base is. Now I know how the new guys on there feel.

No worries.

Everyone has to start somewhere. There was once a time in all our lives where we knew nothing about cars. We learned, so will you. This forum is a good place to start.
