It's one or the other. Both do pretty much the same as in tuning your car but with the chip, you can't adjust anything or datalog as you can with the Xcal3 tuner. The chip would be a "take to the tuner only". The chip is old school and the tuner is new age school. I would stay with the tuner for sure.

the only good bit about the chip is that i believe u can store more than one tune in it and switch between them really quick like if u were running nitrous at the track or something and use a different tune than if youre just driving around but the flash tuner is much more versatile thats the one that gets my vote
A chip can be custom dyno tuned, but you have to remove the prom and burn it each time it's changed. It will however store 3 custom dyno tunes, that can be switched from one to another on the fly. And it also works as an anti-theft device, just pick the number on the switch and leave it blank so when you have the switch dial turned to that number the vehicle won't start. The SF-3 will store up to 3 canned tune files, like something you would purchase from Brenspeed or Bama Chips etc. Also the SF-3 is a flash tuner that plugs into any ALDL under your dash, and can only be used on OBDII vehicles from 96 up. Your better off with the X3, then you can have your vehicle custom dyno tuned to your particular mods. Unlike the SF-3 which they claim the tune file to be a custom dyno tune file, it is on the vehicle they used to create the tune file. Just remember no two vehicles react to the same mods the same, all vehicles react different and are different just like finger prints, Mike. SCT Tuner.

I agree Mike about all cars being different. All motors are different, and react differently to mods. It is not a cookie-cutter. BTW, all the 94+ V6's already came OBDII. They started 2 years before the GT's......
