I have a 2002 V6 Mustang, I was driving the other day and I went over a bump in the road, there was a loud noise and I assumed somthing in thoad bumpe the drivers door, when I looked there was nothing marking the dorr, however when I went to do the windo up, it would not go all the way up, the back seems okay but the front part is lagging down and not going all the way up.

Does anyone know of the way to fix this, I would prefer to do it at home not take it to a shop.

call up an auto store, like FMA or NAPA. (i wouldnt trust autozone with this) and ask them for an epoxy that will bond metal to glass. expect to pay around $20 for the epoxy, but trust me it's worth every penny. i used 3M epoxy on my window, that stuff is just ridiculously strong.

after you get your door panel off, you'll see the window is glued to (2) brackets that are rivited to the regulator. if your window is seperated from both brackets, then pull your window up all the way by hand and put a couple strong suction cups at the bottom of the window to keep it up out of your way. then unbolt the regulator assembly from your door frame (just a handful of 13mm bolts) and remove it completely, then take a whiz wheel and clean the brackets of any old glue as best you can. then, take the whiz wheel and use it to clean all the old glue off of the glass. if you dont have a whiz wheel, then you can use sandpaper, but spend some time on it! you want both surfaces very clean.

more than likely you will have found a good 2 part epoxy, which will consist of a Base and an Accelerant. find a little cup to mix them in, but once you do, work quickly because it gets hard in about a minute. i have found it's much easier to reinstall the regulator, and then use a popsicle stick to apply the epoxy inside the bracket, and then insert the window into the brackets. after that's done, put everything back together, close the door, and roll the window all the way up until it stops. that will put pressure on the 2 surfaces and strengthen the bond.

now, exactly how you go about fixing your window really depends on which of the 2 brackets have come unglued, if not both.
basically, if only 1 bracket has come unglued, you obviously wont want to remove the entire regulator because that means you would have to sever the bond of the other bracket. instead, you would have to drill out the rivet of the unglued bracket, remove the bracket, clean it, and then reinstall it with a bolt. but, the reason it was rivited in the first place was so that it can swivel as the arms move up and down. what you'll have to do instead will be to find a small bolt to put in its place, but dont tighten it down all the way. you will definitely need to put some threadlocker on the threads of the bolt so that it doesnt back out and fall off. this way, the bracket can still swivel freely, and wont fail. (this is what i have done and i've found it works fine)

let me know which brackets have actually come unglued and i can give more specific dissassembly/reassembly info.




and PS, try not to use the window at all until you get it fixed, the regulator arms are somewhat flimsy and bend easily. if you bend the arms, you'll most likely need a new regulator.
