I've noticed that during usual cruising around town, my stock 05 auto will jump into 5th O/D gear pretty quick. when im making a turn and then try to accelerate, O/D is super slow and feels heavy at the pedal, and downshifting takes time.

what i do is hit the O/D off button, it downshifts right away, i feel a very very slight jerk and then the car picks up real quick, and once i get to the speed i want to i turn O/D on again.

is this safe or will it massively damage the tranny?

yeah its pretty much like if you were going 60 and you are on 5th gear, when you hit the overdrive off it basically lowers the trans a gear to 4th

and it shouldnt mess up the tranny unless you leave it in read line for a long time, which am sure you would blow up the engine first

nah ive never ever red lined so far..well once when i was doing a 0-60 timed run but i let off the throttle a bit at 5K and gunned it again. thanks for the info.

and i think the autos have a 4k rpm limiter on neutral 1 and2 so even if you tried i dont think you could, ever notice that when you rev it it doesnt go all the way up??
