So I bought this 2000 v6 mustang 2 years ago and found out it was a lemon. I replaced the engine with a 2004 engine with 7,000 miles on it. So i hit 130,000 miles on the car this evening, and I turned off my car at 130,000.4 to get some stuff at the gas station. When i came out and turned on my car, my Service engine soon light came on. Is this related to it hitting 130,000 miles? This engine has been well cared for and it is very unlikely that there is something wrong already. I have been using the new engine for 3000 to 5000 miles already.
Thanks in advanced.
I saw somewhere that I could disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few minutes to clear the SES. If it comes back, there is something wrong. Is this something you would suggest?
The service engine light can be programmed by the dealer to let you know its time to get service. how long have you had the car? its possible that it wasnt turned off.
I really hope that this is what it is. It's just too convenient that the SES lite up at EXACTLY 130,000 miles on my odometer.
hmm ive never heard that before.. may be possible... still should get the code read at like autozone or somewhere.. get the exact code and then come back here with it and people on the site can tell you exactly what needs to be done
you say the light came on after getting gas...did you tighten the cap well? if so, then inspect the o-ring gasket inside the cap. if the gasket is pinched/damaged/cracked, replace the cap.

no, you are thinking of the "MAINT REQ" light that some manafacturers use. toyotas for example, have a "MAINT REQ" light that comes on every 5k miles to tell you to change the oil...
but our stang's have no such light.
if the CEL light comes on, there is a malfunction present. sorry...

damn i thought of that as i read it the first time and then was side tracked by the scheduled maintenance light question lol
I didn't get gas, i was buying a drink. (At the gas station)
I talked to Ford and they said there is no such thing post 2000. Yet when I called my mechanic he said it was possible. Pretty much any problem related to that message I have read about. Tomorrow I am taking it into the shop to have him check/clear the code. I will post tomorrow as to what the error code is. Also I am going to fill up my tank tonight, so if it was related to the gas cap (unlikely), it should clear by tomorrow.
Yeah, just go to autozone and have them give you a code for free. If you have a tuner, you cane check it also. I'm about 45 miles to reaching 130,000 myself. I'm about to head out to work in a bit which is 60 miles and if my light comes on at the 130 mark... i will let you know, lol!
