Does anyone know the length of time to install a shift kit? Or would it be a good idea to let a garage complete the install?

I would do the "J mod" over a shift kit. If you want a cam, it would depend on if you want to keep your current valvetrain. Some cams require changing springs.....

A J-mod actually involves drilling out the transmission's valves to allow more fluid to flow.
